On Monday July 6th, His Holiness the Dalai Lama spoke with panelists on the topic of Wisdom, Vision and Experience. It was memorable a dialogue with Nobel Laureates, World Leaders, Professional Experts, and Artists on the topic of Compassion.

Memorable Moments:

  • Dolores Huerta on People Power

In one of the most moving moments of the panel, Dolores Huerta, labor leader and civil rights activist, makes the audience aware of their own “People Power.” 85 year old Huerta took command of the packed Bren Events Center and asked, “Who’s got the power?” to which they responded, “We’ve got the Power.”

This chant was a reminder for the people in the stadium that each and every one of them has the power to Be the Change. In this case, they have “People Power,” which enables them to create a more compassionate world

  • Sharon Ebadi on Life’s Challenges

Sharon Ebadi, a lawyer and Nobel Laureatte who fights tirelessly for human rights in her home country of Iran and around the world, has faced countless opposition in her lifetime. When asked about how she overcame these hardships, Ebadi, of course, had an inspiring answer. She compared loss in life to a step back and demonstrated that if one takes a step back they’ll then be better able to jump higher. In this way loss, rather than being an inhibitor, can instead propel you forward.

As human rights lawyer and Nobel Laureate Shirin Ebadi شیرین عبادی shared at the Global Compassion Summit, sometimes we have to step back before taking a great leap forward.Made possible with Center for Living Peace & University of California, Irvine

No person, no place, and no thing has any power over us, for ‘we’ are the only thinkers in our mind. When we create peace and harmony and balance in our minds, we will find it in our lives.
